Mission to Honduras 2012

Bethel will be partnering with International Mission Builders and some other area churches to send a mission team to Honduras for the thrid consecutive year in 2012

Currently we have 3 members of our church planning to travel to spread the love and joy and hope of Jesus Christ with the children and adults in Honduras. The entire team is excited to be answering the call of God together and know He will guide and bless us in our ministry in Honduras. If you would like to join this team, please contact Amy Polk

We will depart from Miami traveling to the International Mission Builders compound in El Cerrón, Honduras which will be our “home base” for the trip. Each day we will travel to neighboring villages\communities to work in their schools and churches, teaching bible lessons, playing games, providing meals, shoes, and simple necessities that the people there generally go without like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc and most importantly providing hope and sharing the joy of Jesus Christ.

We would greatly appreciate you joining with us, becoming part of our team, by praying for us. Prayer is critical to any ministry. If God is not in this trip, it will all be in vain. Please pray that our Lord would be a part of our trip, and even now begin to prepare us and those we’ll be ministering to.

We also need you to join with us, becoming part of our team, by supporting us financially. The total cost of the trip is $275 plus airfare per person. In the past airfare has ranged from $250-400 round-trip. Given the current fuel costs, we are preparing for at least $500 in airfare costs. Our housing, local travel in the country and meals are covered in this cost, but we will also be required to take all of our own supplies for the ministry. This means all of the toiletries, shoes, bibles, and VBS supplies.

Be on the lookout for fund raising events and collections for the 2012 mission!

The 2011 team would like to thank the Bethel congregation and the community for their outpouring of generosity, love and support.  In July 2011, we delivered 100 care packages, school supplies, toys and games for the schools and over 100 pairs of flip flops collected from the Bethel congregation and community.

Please seek the Lord's guidance and consider joining us this year! Please support this team with your prayers for their safety, their mission and their families.

LAD Soup Kitchen
Our Soup Kitchen ministry is dedicated to providing support for the Lad Soup Kitchen, a 75 seat facility that is part of Suwannee Valley Rescue Mission. The kitchen serves anywhere from 75 to 200 meals per day.

Mr. Tim, who has been the kitchen manager since it opened says, "The number of meals increases during the summer months, because the kids are out of school. The kitchen serves on average 25 to 30 kids per day, guaranteeing them 2 well balanced meals even though they are not in school. There is only one criteria for admission to the kitchen and that is hunger. No one is denied a meal."

The kitchen is fully manned by volunteers and the food is provided by donations from the local community. Bethel members prepare and serve meals on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  If you are interested in helping prepare or serve, please contact Peg or Lynn Hostash.

Souper Bowl of Caring

The Souper Bowl of Caring is an international movement of congregations, schools, community organizations and compassionate individuals caring for others on Super Bowl weekend (February 5th, 2012). Souper Bowl of Caring equips and mobilizes youth to positively impact their communities by collecting money or food on or near Super Bowl weekend. 100% of the collections are donated directly to the charity of each group's choice.

At Bethel, our youth will hold an All You Can Eat Soup or Chili lunch after the 11:00 services on Souper Bowl Sunday for a $5 donation to the LAD Soup Kitchen in downtown Lake City.  In 2011, they raised $750 for the soup kitchen and have raised over $2700.00 since they started this project.

Thanks to everyone who donated and participated!
